Escort Cards vs. Place Cards

via Merriment Events
"The escort card is used to direct guests to their predetermined table seating arrangement for the wedding reception. It corresponds with a master seating chart, which may or may not designate guests to specific seats.
Generally, guests will find the escort card on a separate table as they enter the reception. The card will be marked with the guest's name and table assignment. The guest tables are either numbered or named, and the escort card is the guests' way of finding the table card they are looking for." (-Wedding Wiki)

"A place card is used to designate preassigned seats at a wedding reception dinner using assigned seating. Place cards are usually set directly on each table to signify where a person should sit. Guests may be guided to their specific table via a seating chart or escort card." (-Wedding Wiki)

Custom-printed matchboxes are a cute alternative to the classic card. They wink to the fireworks guests will see as you exchange vows, and double as keepsakes they can use long after the big day. (Martha Stewart Weddings)

Tiffany & Co. -Part 1.

When you're working with a predominant theme (much like Tiffany & Co.), I think the first thing you need to do is take a step back and decide on the elements of your party that you really want to showcase. Many couple find that they want their cake to be the focal point of their reception and others choose smaller details like the centerpieces or favors.  In most cases, a Tiffany & Co. theme is going to lock you into using robin's egg blue (the color of their boxes) as the main color of your event. Luckily, this is a beautiful color that can be used for casual backyard event or an elegant "dressed up" affair.

This is one of many great invitations from WeddingPaperDivas that fits with the robin's egg blue palette. Blue is very versatile color that would appeal to both men and women.

The blue ribbon around the bouquet is another easy way of tying your theme together. (You can see another example of a similar bouquet in the first picture, top left.)

If you're looking for a more pronounced theme, this would be a great bouquet for a flower girl.

This is a gorgeous centerpiece that is romantic without being too feminine. There also appears to be a blue table runner and blue menu on table which are two touches I really enjoy.

These are great favor boxes you can have sitting on the tables (or even the plates). Not only are they practical, but they're also pretty to look at. The boxes can be found here. I also have a link to bigger boxes that could be used as a card box (more on those later) or simply as decoration. With a little bit of ribbon, you can make these boxes look stylish and authentic.

Cupcakes are a great alternative to the traditional wedding cake.

Love in Pictures

These are a few photographs I love of a gorgeous couple who were married in Colorado Springs. Have two people ever looked more in love? I don't think so.

The pictures are by the talented Audrey Hannah Brooks, a photographer who always seems to capture the authentic and irreplaceable moments and emotions of each wedding.

Be sure to check out Audrey's blog to see more of her inspiring photography.

Thumbprints

(These personalized and affordable Fabluster rings are a unique alternative to the average wedding bands. They range from $45 to $450. The bands will be a constant reminder of the imprint your husband or wife have made in your life. It is sure to be a family heirloom for many generations to come.)

This could be a fun alternative to your run-of-the-mill guest book. Instead of having your guests sign their names in a book, have them also leave their thumbprint and well-wishes.

You didn't think we would leave thumbprint cookies out, did you? A fun way to incorporate the cookies into your wedding festivities would be to feature them on the reception table (just inside the entry way) alongside the alternative guest book. On the table you could display a cute, kitschy sign that would invite attendants to 'leave a thumbprint and take a thumbprint'.

These would be a great gift to give a groom on his wedding day. They are a small detail that would carry on the thumbprint theme.
This is an idea of how you could incorporate thumbprints into a wedding program or Save-the-Date (STD). If you're looking for a simple DIY project, this would be perfect for you.

Like the picture above shows, thumbprints can also be used on favors or favor tags for a personalized and creative touch.

A large portrait like the one above would be a great way of adding texture and a little bit of quirk to your wedding reception. This would also be an easy way to incorporate your wedding colors into a canvas. After the wedding, take it home and hang it in your living room or bedroom as a memento of your big day.
