Escort Cards vs. Place Cards

via Merriment Events
"The escort card is used to direct guests to their predetermined table seating arrangement for the wedding reception. It corresponds with a master seating chart, which may or may not designate guests to specific seats.
Generally, guests will find the escort card on a separate table as they enter the reception. The card will be marked with the guest's name and table assignment. The guest tables are either numbered or named, and the escort card is the guests' way of finding the table card they are looking for." (-Wedding Wiki)

"A place card is used to designate preassigned seats at a wedding reception dinner using assigned seating. Place cards are usually set directly on each table to signify where a person should sit. Guests may be guided to their specific table via a seating chart or escort card." (-Wedding Wiki)
